Encouraging your customers to have a stronger relationship with your brand will in turn provide you with more opportunities to build brand loyalty, increase word-of-mouth referrals and hopefully increase sales. You can always take this engagement a step further and invite your audience to participate in competitions, quizzes, polls and Q&A’s. You can gain invaluable insight into your audience’s likes, dislikes, challenges and concerns through these activities which will allow you to create targeted campaigns that will convert. Use your social media as a networking platform. Like, comment and reply to your audience and ask them to do the same. Having better audience engagement means your customers have a stringer relationship with your brand. This in turn provides you with more opportunities to build brand loyalty, increase word-of-mouth referrals and increase sales.
Staying on brand sends a clear message to your clients, customers and followers (existing and potential) that you know who you are as a business and that you are confident on what you can provide them. Your brand identity should be consistent across all your marketing channels. It can be confusing for customers and followers to understand what you are about if your messaging and identity seems to switch from one day to the next. Make sure your brand strategy aligns with your social media strategy. It’s all about consistency!
To grow your social media presence it is important to understand not only what posts and campaigns are performing well, but also why. Keep an eye on how your social media is performing. Analytics aren’t just there to let you know how your posts are performing, they are also there to let you know about what your future posts should look like. This can help you plan for future posts; what hashtags work and who to share with! You can start by looking in your analytics dashboard and tracking your posts’ performance. As you do this you will start to notice trends which you can then use to guide your future social media strategy.
Staying current with trends, events, and fashions, especially those that showcase your business will reinforce your brand. However, business are being expected to be more vocal about social issues, but remember, this can be as simple as just not posting for a day or pausing. Whatever you decide to do you have to remain flexible and work quickly to determine how to proceed.
It’s important not to overwhelm yourself by trying to get famous on every platform going! You may be tempted to get yourself on every social media platform just to get your name out there, however, your audience might not be on certain platforms, so this will be a waste of time and resources. Take the time to know where your audience is. If you have a business with a product or service, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn might be the best ones for you, however, if you are a photography or artist then a more visual platform such as Instagram and Pinterest may be best suited.
Finding the right balance between promoting your product or service and adding value is key. Most users don’t go on social media for adverts, it is a place for them to be entertained and informed. Although users expect there to be a certain amount of advertising you will quickly loose them if all you do is promote your product or service. Earn followers trust and then they will be more open to trying your product or service.
And finally… remember building your social media presence is all about connecting with your audience, and this doesn’t happen overnight. Don’t be tempted to try quick fixes, be authentic and build a sustainable presence. It’s a work in progress and you need to be in it for the long game. Don’t give up to too quickly, have fun, be creative and enjoy the ride!
